I work at LensCrafters, and Eyemed is one of the most popular vision plans I see. I also have eyemed, but since I am part time, it covers most of my exam.

My first question is have you already used your eyemed benefits for the year? If yes, you should get a 40% discount on your contacts (as well as glasses and prescription sunglasses!)

If no, you should be able to log onto Eyemed, click on "view your benefits", and scroll down towards the bottom. Somewhere, there should be a line about contacts and how much you have to pay. It's possible that since you are after colored contacts, it may consider it a "premium lens" only cover 20% of the charge. Eyemed plans vary group by group, but that is the typical Eyemed plan I see.

FYI...EyeMed is owned by Lenscrafters.

Eyemed has lots of different plans. I've seen plans that cover a certain dollar amount towards contact lens supply (ie most commonly, I see them cover up to $ 150 of material) and you will also typically get a "frame allowance" you can use towards glasses such as a non-rx pair of sunglasses (that too, I commonly see covers up to $ 150 towards a frame then gives you 20% off the balance left afterwards). Every plan is different. Your best bet is to go to eyemed.com and look up your individual plan.

Colored contacts are usually around $ 40 a box. Each box has six lenses.

LensCrafters doesn't own Eyemed. LensCrafters is part of a parent company called Luxottica. Luxottica as a whole is the biggest primary provider for Eyemed Insurance.

I work for a competitor of Eyemed's so I'll answer from the perspective of the industry.

It may depend on whether or not your contacts are prescription or if you want them simply to change the color of your eyes. The latter would be a cosmetic change, not a medical need. If it's cosmetic only, you may only receive a discount - if anything - instead of the full contact lens allowance. I recommend you contact the agent who sold the plan to your company and have them research it for you as that's part of their job to help with benefit questions on plans they sold (ask your Human Resources department for help).

FYI to clarify other posts: Luxottica is the parent company of both Eyemed and Lenscrafters.
