Health care professionals familiar with eye appointments?what is the difference between a 2S-Optometry appointment, and a 2Q Ophthalmology appointment. I have both appointments.

I take a medicine called Plaquinil, which could potentially effect my vision, and I want to know which of these appointments is the more crucial for detecting any damage from the drug.

IMO either. "bullseye" maculopathy (which is what plaquenil supposedly causes but i have not seen 1 case in 11 yrs, despite dozens of patients on it) usually causes terrible vision. if you see pretty well, you probably dont have it. but even if you did have it, the bullseye pattern is pretty easy to distinguish...anyone who could look at your macula (both optom & ophth) could pretty easily figure it out.

you either have that appearance or you dont. you may not be able to tell much by looking at that, but trust me every 1st year optometry student could pick that out.

so...IMO either appt is probably fine.
