PARENTS please take a moment to fill out my survey, it would greatly help me!!!?IF YOU FEEL IT IS TOO LONG THAN PLEASE JUST ANSWER AS MUCH AS YOU LIKE :)
Children learn best when they are happy and secure. Home child care and school age program environments are safe and nurturing. I seek to open my own home daycare within 6 months to 2 yrs depending upon the results of this survey. A few minutes of your time could greatly help me to be successful in the culmination of my life's work. So as not to sway your answers I will keep my education and personal vision for this centre to myself but I would love the opportunity to simply read your hurried thoughts or even to discuss at length your good and bad experiences in all daycare formats. I am passionate about this dream I have had since I was 14 and would so appreciate any answers or thoughts that you are willing to share! Please answer as many or as few questions as you would like. Any and all of your opinions and experiences are important to me.

A) Your preference? I think most day cares do some pre-school activities, I don't think that is different. My day care did letters, songs, stories, and all that stuff.
B) Which from the above list are most important to you? Please comment below or underline or bold all the above that apply. Reading readiness is the most important. I think that is very clear that students who master reading early do better long term in school.
C) What would you pay for basic care? It should be similar to other day cares in the area.
D) What would you pay for advanced care? I would not pay "extra" for "advanced care" and would not go to a day care that had "two levels" of care, I think all children should be treated the same at all times. I might go to a daycare with slightly higher than average fees if they were strong in the educational edge. However, "two tier" or basic and advanced programs are a NO.
2. What do you currently spend on childcare? (Leave blank if none of my business) I have used several types of childcare, and ended up with a nanny. My kids are now teens. The nanny cost around 12 per hour, she came to my home.
3. Which best describes your needs if you were to consider home daycare? (Underline or bold all that apply) I think most need full day, for the preschool age, with part time schedules upon availability. Most public schools now have before and after care at a good price.(at least where we live)
Before School After School 5 Full Days per Week
Tues and Thurs Full Day Mon, Wed and Fri Full Day Summer Camp
Half-Day Care (5 days) Half-Day Care (2 days) Half-Day Care (3 days)
4. Ages of children?
5. Would you need the home daycare to accept government subsidies? no
6. How important would special needs care be to your family? not
7. Would your children benefit from French language tutoring? foreign languages are great
8. Would you find 1 adult's presence sufficient or would you prefer 2? I would prefer two if possible
9. Would you prefer a flexible homey environment or the scheduled, more classic preschool model? Play vs. education? I think a mixture is good. Learning and playing in a relaxed environment with a defined schedule.
10. How important is outdoor play and exercise for your children to you? very
11. Your thoughts on brand new toys vs. donated and handmade? handmade has legal issues probably, just to be horribly honest. Safe is the only criterion I care about.
12. Importance of caregiver education? Self-taught or Early Childhood Educator Diploma? I prefer a diploma. You just never know. My nanny was a retired schoolteacher.
13. Is it important that the caregiver has children of their own? No.
14. Is religious education important to you or is it important that there is no religious education or leanings in your child's care environment? I think a general focus on "God" and "saying grace" would be very important. Not necessarily religious education, though, unless it is not specific to one denomination. For example, reading the Christmas story, Easter, and the like, but non sectarian.
15. Would your choice home daycare adhere to the provincial government's licensing requirements or would you prefer to dictate your own requirements? I think laws dictate this
16. Preferred number of classmates, or ratio of educator to children? Do you prefer more on-on-one educational time or an emphasis on social interaction? Ratio is by law. Of course one on one is best when possible
17. Is affiliation with a home daycare agency important to you? yes
18. Would you benefit from pet daycare? no
19. What is your opinion on pets in the home daycare setting? yucky, allergy, unsafe
20. How do you see the ideal physical environment of a home daycare? SAFE this is the one and only big deal.
21. Are there any particular toys or activities that you would hope to find in your ideal daycare centre? What are they? picture books, letters, creative play
22. Just for fun, what do you think I should call my Mississauga home daycare? "The Ark" with picture of happy kids and animals in a big boat.
23. Any other thoughts, advice or opinions? I am experienced with lots of daycare people. The main concern is safety and knowledge of first aid. The second is "caring" and treating kids well. The third is "learning." I left one homecare person because she wanted to pack kids up in her van when she needed to run errands. That was a...NO. If you have like 5 or 6 kids you are caring for, they need to stay put. Good luck! Childcare is a hard job!
24. Can I contact you again if I have any further questions?
