Since Obama is looking for ideas on health care reform, can I submit mine?Here is the plan:
1) Revamp medicare and make it medicare for all
2) Plan would cover 85% of whatever a citizen needs done medically that is a legitimate medical, vision, or dental need...up to a maximum per person annual copay of $ 1,500 at which point it pays 100%.
3) The plan would be volutary and people would be able to sign for private insurance if they prefer it or as supplements.
4) The plan would be paid for in the following manner:
a) enrollees would pay monthly premiums...to be covered in any given calendar month, they would have to have had coverage that started and premiums paid the month before. This premium would be $ 100 a month for seniors 59 years old an older, $ 120 per month for adults between 25 and 58 years old and children would be $ 30 per child.
b) Employees would have a 5% health care payroll tax taken from their gross pay and employers would have to match that 5% as well.
c) Cut war spending down by at least half starting in year 2011 and eliminate wasteful military spending by closing some bases overseas and axing obsolete or unnecesary weapons systems.
5) Price controls on medical procedures would be set for providers that want to get paid under the new medicare for all system. For example, a first visit to a doctors office where he spends less than 15 minutes with you should not cost more than $ 50. A root canal should not cost more than $ 250. An Xray should not cost more than $ 45 etc...
6) Try to create a larger supply of health care providers by providing more grants for people who want to go into the medical field.
7) Make it really advantageous to be a non for profit hospital by giving a lot of incentives to do so sot that to be a for profit hospital makes no sense.

You will have about as much luck as the republicans in getting your ideas considered.
Social Security was voluntary until the democrats made it mandatory in 1983.
