Best Medical Care for my Mom in CA?

Best Medical Care for my Mom in CA?Ok...here's the deal. We live in central CA and my mom is having issues. She hurts all over, hurts to move. Suffers from dizziness and double vision, and probably more symptoms she has yet to share with us. She is only 66 years old. She's very very very very very very very very very very (get the picture?) stubborn and has been telling us (my sister, brother and myself) for some time that she's "fine" and she's "taking care of it", etc. We have yet to see any progress from the local doctors. We can't figure out if she's not actually telling the doctor about her symptoms or they're just too inept to do anything about it. Today after another ugly confrontation, I told her that she was going to leave this area and get checked at respected medical facility like UCLA, San-sum or Stanford, even if I had to tie her up and drag her kicking and screaming. My dad is around and drives her to appointments and such, but we haven't figured out if he's in denial or he just doesn't see it because he's with her all the time. I need suggestions and any input I can get regarding her symptoms, too. Thank you!

Sorry to hear about your problem that you're having with you mom. I went through the same thing for several years with my mother. She lived in Loma Linda, CA in which she kept telling me that she went to the doctor and lord behold she'd not informed her doctor about her symptoms. So I had to take matters into my own hands. These are some of the steps in which help me to deal with her illness.

1. Obtain power of attorney (must be of legal age)
2. Personally escorted her to the doctor went into the treatment room with her and explain her symptoms.
3. Written down all of her medical illness, medication, allergies etc.
4. Put me down as legal next of kin.
5. Inform both of my brothers of what I was doing (in order not to have any problem in the near future, you know how family can be).
6. Administered all of her medications.
7. Call and check on her daily keeping a journal of what going on.
8. Obtain a Home Health Aide through her insurance.
This is the final thing in which I done, I personally moved her to the state in which I reside. Now I can see her each and every day plus take her out on outings get her involved with other activities to keep her mind alert.

My mother is recovering from having 4 strokes, short term memory, osteoarthritis, depression and walking difficulties.

So I thank "GOD" each and every day for her still being alive.

I hope this is helpful to you, if you should need someone to talk to I am here for you.
