Preventive eye care?

Preventive eye care?I use computers all my waking hours, and thusfar I have perfect vision (and the other 4 members of my family all have glasses).
I would like to keep it that way, but the best advice I've heard is to visit the eyedoctor every year.
Does anyone else have any good ideas?

dim the brightness/color to low and use a monitor screen, dont stare too long at the screen take breaks.

You want to make the brightness of the screen match the brightness of the room. In other words, you don't want a really dim screen in a really bright room or a really bright screen in a really dark room. The eyes don't like big differences in contrast. You also should take frequent breaks (look out the window every 20 minutes or so) to relax your focus and give your eyes a quick rest. And of course, see your eye doctor every year to make sure your eyes are still healthy.

Using the computer might damage yoru eye sight. It might be because you are accomodating (using your eye muscles to see). Sok, your vision might get worse. USually people who study a lot and read alot their vision gets worse. However, soem people dont read at all and they are born taht way. There is NO REAL preventative eye care. The only preventative eye care is to catch somethingearly so that it doesn't progress. THe eye doctor can't really stop you from not getting glasses. Its kinda going to happen AND ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU GET OLDER, you will need reading glasses. and there is nothing that you will be able to do to prevent it. TRUST ME!! I am in optometry school right now. THERE IS NOTHING THAT YOU CAN DO TO PREVENT YOUR EYES FROM NOT NEEDING GLASSES. Sometimes it happens earlier than others, sometimes it doesn't. Bottom line, in order to see thne eye doctor on a yearly basis is not that you will not need glasses, is that your eye doctor can catch systemic diseases faster sometimes, because you can catch diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, etc, in the eye, and if you can see it in your eye, its in the rest of your body. The eye doctor can then tell you to go back to your physician and tell them to start you on some medications for your over all health, that in turn will help your vision from not getting worse, or the overall health of your eye. Dont be fooled though, there is nothing you can do to prevent your eyes from getting worse. IT WILL HAPPEN, kind of like you will die one day, you will need glasses one day its a normal process of aging. So, just live your life, and dont worry about it, see your eye doctor to make sure your eyes are healthy. REMEMBER its more important to have healthy eyes, because if you have healhty eyes most likes you will not ever not see. And if your vision is not great, and you need glasses, the most important thing is that if your glasses can make syou see, that is important, as long as you can see 20/20 w/ or without your glasses, that is important. SOme people even w/glasses can't ever see 20/20..
So, relax. and live your life, whats going to happen will happen.
